During the June Nintendo Direct, we finally got a glimpse of the long-awaited Metroid Prime 4. Now titled Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, the gameplay reveal marks a significant milestone for a game that has been in development for several years.
Originally announced at E3 2017, Metroid Prime 4 was initially being developed by Bandai Namco Studios. However, in 2019, Nintendo confirmed that development had restarted and Retro Studios, the original developers of the Prime series, would be taking over the project. This shift in development had fans both concerned and hopeful, as Retro Studios’ involvement promised a return to the series’ roots.
The gameplay shown at the Direct provided a look at the next chapter in Samus Aran’s journey. While specific details are still under wraps, the footage showcased the atmospheric environments, intense combat, and intricate exploration that fans have come to expect from the Metroid Prime series. The game’s graphics and design appear to make full use of the Nintendo Switch’s capabilities, promising a visually impressive experience.
Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is set to release sometime in 2025 on the Nintendo Switch. While the wait continues, the gameplay reveal has reignited excitement and anticipation for what promises to be a major addition to the Metroid series.
